ED 665 Materials for Reading Literacy

Explores research-supported programs, approaches, and materials to support diverse literacy needs and develop strategic, fluent, and independent readers. Teacher candidates select and evaluate reading materials aligned with scientifically based reading research while investigating key elements of high-quality literacy programs. Emphasis is placed on addressing different levels of reading proficiency, integrating effective instructional materials, and applying research-based criteria to curate and organize diverse print and digital resources. Additionally, participants will utilize a range of strategies to actively engage students in reading and writing while fostering inclusive and culturally responsive instruction. The course also highlights the importance of collaborating with families and the school community to promote daily reading both inside and outside the classroom.
