Independent Research and Creative Works

In many academic programs, students have the opportunity to pursue independent research or other projects under the mentorship of an SU faculty member or off-campus mentor. These experiences are offered as independent research courses, capstone experiences, work study or other paid positions, and summer opportunities. Through these experiences, students hone their critical thinking, technical, and communication skills while conducting independent research or creating their own original work within their academic field. The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research sponsors a Student Scholarly and Creative Works Summer Grant Program that supports undergraduate students in pursuing independent work during the summer under the mentorship of an SU faculty member.
