Description
The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management (HCM) major is designed to give graduates the knowledge, skills, critical thinking ability, and technological competence essential to be successful in healthcare administration, conducting research, communicating effectively, and analyzing and interpreting healthcare data that impact the delivery of healthcare services. The healthcare management major provides a strong foundation in healthcare administration and includes courses in accounting, finance, healthcare management, healthcare marketing, economics, healthcare information systems, healthcare regulations, and ethics and law. Theoretical concepts reviewed in the classroom are applied to real world healthcare administration problems via case study analyses, teamwork, internships, and other integrative exercises.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Healthcare Management program, graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the functional areas of healthcare administration affecting the conduct and structure of healthcare organizations.
- Formulate healthcare administration solutions, both independently and in teams.
- Communicate healthcare administration information to specific audiences in varied formats.
- Analyze regulatory, legal, and ethical issues and practices that impact the delivery of healthcare services.
- Demonstrate personal and professional ethics, cultural competency, the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, and related professional competencies required for healthcare management careers.
Policies
Students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.00 in the major. The lowest acceptable grade is a “C” in all courses listed in the major under “Program Requirements” for the major, including both courses in the major and SEE courses required by the major. No student, regardless of major, will be permitted to advance to the next course without earning a grade of "C" or better in the prerequisite course(s). When a grade below "C" is earned in a major course, the student must repeat that course.

The discipline minor in Healthcare Management requires successful completion of a minimum of six courses and 18 credits of courses with an HCM prefix. The Healthcare Management minor is available to students in all majors.
