Athletics at SU
Stevenson's athletic facilities are among the best in Division III. The University opened its Owings Mills campus in 2004 to accommodate its growth and expansion. Two years later, it acquired the former headquarters and practice facility for both the NFL's former Baltimore Colts and two-time Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
The Caves Athletics Complex, a 60,000 square foot modern facility, is located on the Owings Mills campus and serves the needs of more than 900 NCAA and Club student athletes and as the general student body. On-campus facilities include the Caves Sports and Wellness Center, Garrison Student Center, Owings Mills Gymnasium, Beach Volleyball Courts, Club Bermuda Grass Field, Mustang Stadium and East Campus Athletic Complex.
The first floor of the Caves Sports and Wellness Center features a fully-equipped fitness center, athletic offices, an athletic training room, and team rooms. The second floor has classrooms, a commuter student lounge, and faculty, staff, and coaches offices. It also houses the Caves Wellness Center and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. The Owings Mills Gymnasium is adjacent to the Caves Sports and Wellness Center on the Owings Mills campus. Designed to host NCAA Division III playoffs, the gym is 15,000 square feet, has a hardwood floor, and seats approximately 1,500 spectators.
Fall of 2022, the East Campus Athletic Complex opened. This facility boasts a 117-acre addition that provides two additional Bermuda grass fields designed for soccer, a Kentucky bluegrass field for general use, a baseball field, a softball field, an 8-lane track and a premier astro-turf field hockey surface. These additions will serve more than 350 Varsity and club student-athletes will be used by the general student population, and will be used for recreation and intramural purposes.
There are two fitness centers available for student use. The first is located on the bottom floor of the Caves Sports and Wellness Center, and the second is located on the north side of the Garrison Student Union. To access each fitness center, students must present their student ID to the attendant on duty.
Intercollegiate Athletics
Stevenson University participates in 29 NCAA Division III sports as a member of the Middle Atlantic Conferences except men’s and women's beach volleyball, which competes as independents, and acrobatics & tumbling, which competes in the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). The Mustangs are affiliated with the ECAC for all sports, providing additional post season opportunities besides the NCAA championships. Those interested in participating on one of Stevenson's 29 intercollegiate athletic teams should contact the head coach of that sport using the staff directory under "Inside Athletics" on GoMustangSports.com..
Club Sports
A club sports team would be an excellent choice for students who wish to keep competing in college but are not participating in one of the University's NCAA teams. All club teams have a coach, multiple structured weekly practices, and weekend competitions compete against other colleges and universities. Club sports are open to all Stevenson full-time undergraduate and graduate students.
Current club sports include baseball, men’s basketball, cheerleading, dance team, field hockey, men's ice hockey (2 teams), women’s lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, and women's volleyball. Students interested in joining any of these teams or learning how to start a team should contact Matt Grimm (Associate Athletic Director, Campus Recreation) by email at mgrimm@stevenson.edu or by phone at 443-352-4280.
